News from a World gone mad

yet there is still so much beauty

After this man died in a nursing home, the nurses find something that changed their lives.

Every day thousands of elderly people in nursing homes eagerly await visitors or at least a phone call from their family. But in the end stages of their lives, their old hearts that won’t beat much longer, are ofter bitterly disappointed. When an old man, whom the nurses only now as a grouch, dies however and his room gets tidied up, they find something that touches their hearts so deeply that it brings them to tears.

Amongst the patients belongings, the memories of an entire life, they found this poem:

What do you see nurses? What do you see?

What are you thinking, when you look at me?

A cranky old man, not very wise,

Uncertain of habit, with faraway eyes?

Who dribbles his food and makes no reply.

When you say in a loud voice, “I do wish you’d try!”

Who seems not to notice, the things that you do.

And forever is losing… a sock or a shoe?

Who, resisting or not lets you do as you will,

With bathing and feeding, the long day to fill?

Is that what you’re thinking? Is that what you see?

Then open you eyes, nurse. You’re not looking at me.

I’ll tell you who I am, as I sit here so still,

As I do at your bidding, as I eat at your will.

I’m a small child of 10, with a father and mother,

Brothers and sisters, who love one another.

A young boy of sixteen, with wings on his feet

Dreaming that soon now, a lover he’ll meet.

A groom soon at twenty, my heart gives a leap,

Remembering the vows, that I promised to keep.

At 25, now I have young of my own,

Who need me to guide, and a secure happy home.

A man of thirty, my young now grown fast,

Bound to each other, with ties that should last.

At forty, my young sons have grown and are gone,

But my woman is beside me, to see that I don’t mourn.

At fifty once more, babies play ’round my knee,

Again we know children, my loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me, my wife is now dead.

I look at the future, I shudder with dread.

For my young are all rearing young of their own,

And I think of the years, and the love that I’ve known.

I’m now an old man, and nature is cruel,

It’s jest to make old age look like a fool.

The body, it crumbles, grace and vigor depart,

There is now a stone, where once I had a heart.

But inside this old carcass a young man still dwells,

And now and again, my battered heart swells.

I remember the joys, I remember the pain,

And I’m loving and living, life over again.

I think of the years, all too few, gone too fast,

And accept the stark fact that nothing can last.

So open your eyes, people, open and see:

Not a cranky old man,

Look closer, see ME!

Never assume that “the old grandpa” next to you don’t see things any more. He lives and feels just like you. In every body beats a heart that remains young, even when the body decays. Remember the words of this old man, whenever you see an elderly people and treat them the way they deserve to be treated.

Share this poem with everyone that you know and remember that in our hearts, we are never old.

They Are Coming For Our Kids! Jobcentre Harassment To Start From 12 Years Old.

ids-dead-teddySchool-children as young as 12 are to face Jobcentre harassment coercing them to join unpaid work schemes when they leave education the DWP have announced today.

Jobcentres busy-bodies are to be sent out into schools in a chilling move that  Iain Duncan Smith has pledged  will have a ‘dramatic’ impact on the nation’s children and encourage social mobility.  Yet this, of course, is a bare-faced lie.  There is no mention of going to college, university, or even starting a real job in today’s gushing DWP press release announcing the scheme.  Instead children will be encouraged into unpaid Work Experience, unpaid traineeships, or poverty paid so-called Apprenticeships which are little more than an excuse for companies like McDonalds to dodge paying their workers the minimum wage.  This scheme is merely the latest shabby attempt to indoctrinate young people into accepting the life of low paid, insecure, shitty jobs – or unpaid workfare – that the Tory Party have planned for the working class.

George Osborne’s cuts mean poverty for another two million children, says report

The Fabian Society says the Tory attack on welfare will increase the number of kids living in poverty by 75% over the next 15 years

Depressed woman overwhelmed with financial issues

Two million more children will grow up in poverty because of George Osborne’slatest cuts, a bombshell report warns.

The Chancellor’s cruel attack on welfare will have plunged an extra 3.6million Brits into poverty by Christmas 2030 – including 1.9million children, the Fabian Societyreveals.

It means the number of children living in poverty will rise by 75% over 15 years to 4.4million unless the attack on low income families is reversed.

The number of youngsters living in absolute poverty – meaning their family does not have enough cash for the basics of life – will rise by 800,000 over the same period.

Fabians general secretary Andrew Harrop said: “If decisions made this year go unchanged, more British children will be hungry at Christmas 2030 than today.”

Cruel: George Osborne’s cuts will increase poverty, a report warns

He warned: “We will live in a country where food banks are an entrenched part of life, not a response to short-term crisis.”

The report highlighted Mr Osborne’s cuts to Universal Credit as a key factor behind the projected surge in poverty.

Although the Chancellor was forced to reverse his planned cuts to tax credits, he is pressing ahead with his attack on UC, which is being brought in to replace a raft of existing benefits by 2020.

Yesterday even the Government’s own adviser on social mobility, former Labour Minister Alan Milburn, told Mr Osborne to think again.

Bill aiming to ban child marriages shot down

Another move to ban child marriages in Pakistan has fallen at the first hurdle. The bill to prohibit underage marriages has been withdrawn after the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) declared it un-Islamic.

The ruling party lawmaker, who moved the bill, withdrew her proposal on Thursday following staunch resistance from the council, which advises the legislature whether or not a certain law is Sharia-compliant.

Child marriage restraint bill : Activists lash out at govt for preparing flawed draft

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony rejected the Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Bill 2014 after the CII dubbed it ‘anti-Islamic’ and ‘blasphemous’.

The committee meeting, which was presided over by its Chairman Hafiz Abdul Karim, unanimously rejected the bill on ‘purely religious grounds’. Afterwards, PML-N’s Marvi Memon also withdrew her proposal.

The proposed legislation had recommended harsher punishments for those entering conjugal contracts with minors.

Last week, lawmakers in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly had also blocked a bill seeking ban on child marriages over similar concerns.

Of child marriages and medieval mindsets

The CII has already ruled the minimum age stipulated for marriage in the Child Marriages Restriction Act of 1929 does not comply with Islamic laws.

In May 2014, amid severe criticism from various quarters, the council had endorsed its earlier ruling that girls as young as nine years old were eligible to be married “if the signs of puberty are visible”.
